"Kaamanabillu" is back again with new vigour and enthusiasm like never before. The Mysore chapter of Aashaayein Foundation celebrates its 2nd year anniversary on this occasion.

It is on this popular quote that Aashaayein Foundation [AF] bases itself.

AF is an NGO in India that works towards the betterment of the underprivileged children through the medium of education. The organization was started in January 2007 in Bangalore by a group of young individuals wanting to make a difference in society. The organization achieves its goals by conducting various projects and events aligned with its objectives. The Mysore chapter of the organization was formally incepted in January, 2010

"Kaamanabillu-fill colours to life"- A report

This event marked the 1st anniversary of AF Mysore chapter. The main objective of this event was to provide a platform for the kids from special schools to interact and mingle with those from mainstream ones and subsequently provide a platform for the NGO's to showcase their efforts and initiatives. Two main activities were organized which included a Painting competition and an Exhibition.
The painting competition was organized for kids in the age group of 10-13 years and the exhibition was organized to present the work done by various social organisations for the underprivileged in Mysore.
More than 10 orphanages and a few NGO's participated in this event and contributed towards its grand success.
The continuous support of the volunteers, helped us achieve all of this in the last one year

Shikshana Abhiyana Program (SA):
SA Expanded in second school- Srirampura GHPS, along with the existing Bastipura GHPS covering over 200 children.

Pustaka Abhiyana program (PA):
Donated library to Doora School, over 1200 notebooks, pencils and erasers distributed at various schools and Support Homes. 10 Govt schools surveyed recording needs other than their academics.

Sunday Breakfast Serving (SBS) :
SBS continued for over 30 weeks at various Support Homes.

Other Activities:
1. Halli summer camp conducted in Doora Village.
2. Children's day celebrated at the 2 SA schools.
3. Sweaters distributed to the needy in 2 support homes.
4. Dental check camp conducted at 2 Government schools and 3 Support Homes.

This time, AF plans for a bigger event to showcase the talents of kids. The objective of this event is no different than the motto of AF and the objectives of previous events.
The activities that have been included in this years' event are Cultural Extravagance and an Exhibition.

  • Cultural event- The orphanages and schools have been provided with professional trainers with expertise in dance and drama and they will be given an opportunity to stage their talents.
  • Exhibition- An exhibition will be organized and space will be provided for NGO's to exhibit their initiatives through display medium. They can also publicise through print media.

Future Plans
  • Continue and expand on current activities.
  • Sponsor education for 25 kids identified during Bachchee mann ke sache program.
  • Promote an internship program where volunteers spend time helping children of Support Homes in areas they need for predetermined period of time.
  • Raise funds to support the needs of the Government Schools recorded during the PA survey.

Kaamanabillu marks AF-Mysore's first year anniversary

A Novel painting competition to bring together the children from various backgrounds of the city

A novel painting competition was organized on January 30, 2011 in the city at the Open Air Theatre by the Aashayein Foundation. 'Kaamanabillu 2011 – Fill colours to life' brought the kids from mainstream schools and those from NGOs, anathashramas and other special learning centres on a common platform to showcase their talent. About 160 children participated from over 12 institutions.

Some of the participating institutions include, St. Philomena's Little Boys Home , Chamundi Children's Home, Sri Chayadevi Anathashrama, Sri Jain Education Society, Makkala Mane (FORHD), Govt. Juvenile Home (Boys), Sneha Kiran  (Mysore Spastic Society) and Puttaveeramma Residential School For Hearing Impaired.
The event also provided a platform for the NGOs and special schools to showcase their efforts in promoting education among the orphans, physically challenged and the not-so-privileged sections of the society. Separate stalls were set up portraying the vision and efforts by each of these institutions.
Sri. Nagendra Kumar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), Mysore was the chief guest.Hon. H.P. Sandesh, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Mysore presided over the event. Speaking at the occasion, Hon. H.P Sandesh emphasized the need to co ordinate efforts from the youth to secure the future of the children. Mrs. Juliana Lobo, Head Mistress, Bastipur Govt Higher Primary School was also present at the occasion. She expressed happiness over the progress of Shikshana Abhiyana at her school. Aashayein Foundation teaches English to 50 students at the Bastipur Govt. Higher Primary School.

Megha M (St. Joseph's Central School) won the first place in the competition while Priyanka BV (Nirmala Convent) and Abijana N (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) bagged the second and third place respectively.
A medical checkup and blood donation camp was also organized on the sidelines of the event. A total of 37 visitors of the event donated their blood at the occasion. The event also marked one year of operations of the Aashayein foundation in Mysore. The foundation works towards raising the aspiration levels kids especially among those from the not-so-privileged sections of the society. The foundation has operations in Bangalore, Mysore and Hyderabad and reaches out to the children through innovative programs such as Shikshana Abhiyana, Sunday Breakfast Serving, Bachche Mann Ke Sachche and Pustaka Abhiyana.
