About Us
Our vision and direction
Aashayein Foundation recognizes the vitality of quality education in the growth and development of every individual, community, country, and even the world. Education is a key element in constituting the society, which keeps it healthy and well nourished. The various activities of the foundation are directly aimed at achieving this – access to quality education.
Although there are numerous challenges in the path for quality education, we have identified 3 major areas as our primary focus:
-
Access to education
A large number of children in India are unable to go to school. These kids do not get a chance to even get introduced to the education system, let alone completing it. This translates to a herculean struggle for their livelihoods, which leads to other social problems. Providing access to education can turn their world around and create a profound change in their lives, which is addressed by the Bachhe Mann Ke Sachhe (BMKS) project.

Every school needs basic infrastructure, environment, and tools in order to provide effective education. However, a majority of Indian schools do not meet this basic requirement to provide a good learning environment for its students. In such cases, helping schools with furniture, stationery, sports equipment, etc., can significantly improve the quality of education. We address this through Pustaka Abhiyana (PA) project.
- Quality of education
Quality relates to the effectiveness of practices, methods, and technologies used in imparting education. Quality also relates to the curriculum and its relevance to the lives of students. However, the in-classroom practices and methods of a majority of Indian schools need to be updated. With the use of newer education methods and technologies, combined with a more relevant curriculum, a major leap in quality of education is possible. We address this through Shikshana Abhiyana (SA) project.
Additionally, we aim to replicate these projects and efforts across various cities in India and hence touch the lives of as many children as possible.
The Journey
It all began on the first Sunday of January 2007, when a group of fresh college grads came together with the idea of doing something different for the new year – a new year resolution to do something good for the society. Thus it began with serving breakfast at an orphanage on the 7th of January 2007. This group continued serving breakfast every Sunday thereafter in orphanages, blind schools, leprosy centers, etc. Friends, family, and other volunteers joined the cause and there were already motivated people ready to spend their time and energies for a social cause.
In a short span of time, this small group had grown to over a hundred volunteers. Our experience till then had made us realize that there are many other problems that need to be addressed and food was just one of them. With due considerations to an old Chinese saying - "Give a man a fish and you'd feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you'd feed him for a lifetime", we decided to take up education of the underprivileged children as our main mission.
We formally registered ourselves as a non-profit organization with Govt. of Karnataka(India) on 19th May 2007 and thus, Aashayein Foundation was officially born. Although, there are more than a thousand registered volunteers who help in the various projects, we still are growing. We will continue to grow until every kid gets access to quality education. |
